Institution Type: Government Funded Institute of Technology

The Eastern Institute of Technology is regarded by the Tertiary Education Commission and Ministry of Education as one of the exemplar tertiary education providers in New Zealand. It is forty years since the Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti campuses were established as tertiary education institutes in Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne respectively. As a result of the merger between the former Tairāwhiti Polytechnic and EIT Hawke’s Bay in 2010, EIT is the major provider of higher education on the east coast of the North Island. The main campus of EIT is based in a suburb of Napier City, located in the Hawke’s Bay region. EIT is a category 1 institution assessed by NZQA under the external evaluation and review. It is one of the top two institutes of technology and polytechnics in New Zealand for research excellence. This helps EIT secure funding through the Government’s performance-based research fund. EIT is committed to provide quality education that is relevant to industry and employers’ needs. One of the key strengths of this institute is that it offers 130 programme that range from foundation to degree up to postgraduate. At present, more than 10,222 students from over 40 countries have been pursuing their degrees from EIT.
