Two institutes Bay of Plenty Polytehnic and Waiariki Institute of Technology merged in 2016 to form Toi ohomai Institute of Technology. The new name “Toi Ohomai’’ was gifted by local Iwi, and means “to aim high and achieve great heights; to be awakened by learning. It is one of the largest tertiary providers in the Bay of Plenty which has five main campuses and it can be found throughout the beautiful Bay of Plenty and South Waikato in Rotorua, Taupō, Tauranga, Tokoroa and Whakatāne.
Toi Ohomai provides more than 200 courses from entry level certificates to postgraduate level with specialties in business, creative arts, engineering, forestry, health and nursing, hospitality, marine science, road transport, tourism, trades, etc. It offers courses from entry level certificates right through to postgraduate level. In a year, more than 13,000 students study with Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology. It works closely with local industries in their region to ensure that every one of their courses is designed to meet an employer needs. More than 75% of their students spend part of their course undertaking work placements, which help facilitate valuable connections between students and potential employer.
