University of the West is a private Buddhist-affiliated university in Rosemead, California. It was founded in 1990 by Hsing Yun, founder of the Taiwan-based Buddhist order Fo Guang Shan and Hsi Lai Temple, the North American order headquarters. The school offered its first class in spring of 1991. We are a community committed to learning with, from, and on behalf of others. University west was accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) on February 16, 2006. Accreditation assures that the quality of education students receive is on par with peer institutions in the region. WSCUC is the regional accrediting body for all major colleges and universities in California, Oregon, Washington,

UWest is eligible to participate in US Federal Student Aid (Title IV) programs and is approved for Veterans Administration benefits.
A renewable annual award of up to $10,000 solely for new students. Students must be eligible, and will be considered based on both academic merit and financial need.
Awarded to new undergraduate students transferring to UWest during the spring semester. The Springboard Scholarship is awarded based on merits.
