If you’re a student in Nepal dreaming of studying abroad in popular countries like the United States, you’ve probably heard about the SAT requirements. Scholastic Assessment Test or SAT in short, is a standardized test that assesses your skills in reading, writing and mathematics.

What is a SAT Test?

The SAT is a standardized test widely used to assess your readiness to join an undergraduate course in the United States. It was developed and is administered by the College Board, a private, not-for-profit organization in the United States.

This test consists of two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math

Understanding the SAT Syllabus

The SAT exam syllabus in Nepal is the same as it is globally. It covers three main sections:

  1. Reading

This section assesses your ability to understand and interpret written texts. The reading section covers various subjects, like social sciences, history, psychology, and science.

  1. Writing and Language

This section tests your understanding of English grammar and your ability to revise and edit texts.

  1. Mathematics

This section covers algebra, data analysis, problem-solving, and advanced math.

Minimum Scores

The minimum score or passing grade differs based on the university and program you choose. Some universities can mark their requirement as 700 for a specific undergrad course and others might require just 600 for the same course. It is important to check the entry requirements of the program you want to enroll in before you book your SAT test date.

Full Scores

The highest possible SAT score is 1600, which is the sum of the maximum scores of 800 from each of the two sections: Math, and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.

Test Duration

You are given a total of 134 minutes (not including breaks) to complete your SAT test. That equates to 2 hours and 14 minutes which is divided into 64 minutes for the Reading and Writing section (64 minutes) and 70 minutes for the Math section.

While the College Board provides free resources like practice tests, you can also join the SAT Preparation classes at Kangaroo Education Foundation to better prepare yourself to score your best in your SAT test. Students normally prepare for at least 3-6 months before they show up at the test center but with the help of KEF, you can become SAT ready within as little as 6 weeks.
